A PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to extract text from an image

Read printed text from a photo, screenshot or scan and turn it into words you can copy and edit.

  1. Add JPG, PNG or WebP images with clear, upright text.

  2. Select the OCR language. Use a mixed English option if your document contains two supported languages.

  3. Select Recognize text, review the preview and copy or download the result.

Improve recognition

Use a sharp image with good contrast, avoid glare and straighten the text. Crop unrelated content before recognition when possible. Tiny text and motion blur reduce accuracy.

Review the words

OCR can confuse similar characters, names, punctuation and numbers. Handwriting and complex layouts are less reliable than clear printed text. Compare important details against the image.
