JPG suits photos without transparency. PNG keeps transparency and sharp edges, but its size is less responsive to a quality slider. WebP can provide compact images with transparency; confirm that your destination accepts it.
If the image will display at a smaller size, reduce its dimensions first. Avoid making it smaller than the space where it will be used. Compare fine details and text before choosing the final quality.
The smallest usable size depends on the picture, dimensions and format. A target cannot always be reached without changing the dimensions or accepting lower visual quality. Inspect the reported output size.
PNG uses lossless encoding, so a lossy quality slider does not work like JPG or WebP. Try reducing dimensions or converting to WebP; use JPG only when transparency is not needed.
