A PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to webp to png

Convert WebP still images to PNG while retaining transparency.

  1. Choose a WebP image. PNG output is preselected.

  2. Keep transparency enabled for transparent source images and avoid resizing unless needed.

  3. Process and check the resulting still image before downloading.

Use PNG for compatible still graphics

PNG is useful when an editor or form cannot open WebP and you need to retain transparency. Its lossless encoding does not recover detail that was already lost in a lossy WebP source.

Animation is not preserved

The image pipeline exports a still image, not an animated sequence. If the source moves, inspect the output to make sure the exported frame is suitable. Keep the original animation when motion is part of the information.

Common questions

Why is a converted PNG larger?

WebP may encode the source more efficiently. PNG stores the decoded still image losslessly and can use more space. Check the output size before using it on a page or uploading it to a form.
