A PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to rotate image

Rotate or flip JPG, PNG and WebP images while keeping their format.

  1. Choose the original image. A 90-degree rotation is selected initially.

  2. Set rotation and any flip option, and keep the original format unless you need another output.

  3. Process, check the subject’s orientation and lettering, then download.

Rotation and mirroring do different jobs

Rotation turns the whole picture. A horizontal flip mirrors it, making printed words appear backwards. For a sideways receipt, rotate without flipping; inspect the receipt text to confirm it reads normally.

Expect width and height to swap

A 1200 × 800 image rotated by 90 degrees becomes 800 × 1200 if no resize is applied. Re-encoding may change file size and removes original metadata, so retain the source if you need its camera information.

Common questions

Is rotating a JPG lossless?

This tool redraws and re-encodes the image. JPG output can lose some detail. Start from the original for each attempt, or choose PNG if you need to avoid another lossy encoding step.
