A PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to jpg to webp

Convert JPEG photos into WebP images with adjustable quality.

  1. Choose the original JPEG photos. WebP output is preselected.

  2. Choose quality and optionally resize to the dimensions required by your destination.

  3. Process, preview the output and confirm the receiving service accepts WebP before downloading.

Compare at the size you will actually use

A website photo may not need the full camera resolution. Resize first when appropriate, then compare faces, gradients and edges. Do not assume a particular quality percentage produces the same appearance across formats.

Avoid repeated conversion

Converting a JPG to lossy WebP adds another encoding step. Keep the original and regenerate from it if you change settings. A smaller download is useful only when the remaining detail meets your needs.

Common questions

Will WebP always be smaller?

No. Results depend on the image, quality and browser encoder. Compare the actual bytes. Some upload forms still require JPG or PNG even when your browser can display WebP.
