A PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to crop image

Crop an image to an exact width and height with a centered crop.

  1. Choose an image and open Resize. Enter the exact output width and height.

  2. Choose Crop to fill the frame. This tool uses a centered crop; inspect the edges to see what will be removed.

  3. Process and compare the output dimensions and framing before downloading.

Cropping changes the visible content

A 1600 × 900 picture cropped to a square loses content from its left and right sides. Cropping is different from stretching: the remaining subject keeps its proportions. Check faces, signatures and document margins before accepting the crop.

When padding is safer

If every edge must remain visible, use padding instead. It adds a background to make the required shape. Use contain when maximum dimensions are enough and the output need not match both dimensions exactly.

Common questions

Can I position the crop anywhere?

This page centers the crop. For document-photo corners use Photo document scanner; do not assume a centered crop will preserve an off-center subject.
